One of those flashes…

Someone’s probably already had this flash (like the author of the paper I can’t read…grr), but what if, what if, Fortuny’s pleats were done by needle pleating the silk to a base fabric and then running it through his ceramic rollers before removing the basting?  The needle pleating would have had to be as precise as smocking and would have been exhaustive work.

But it almost makes sense.  It makes more sense than the Shibori methods I’ve seen that don’t quite work the way Fortuny pleats do.

If I’m right and no one else has thought of this (HIGHLY unlikely), it’s a breakthrough of some sort.  I don’t think I’m the first one to speculate, and I really don’t think I’m right…but it almost makes sense.

Dork. Although my contributions to the world’s general knowledge…well, the less said the better.

One of these days I’m going to write a technical dance post and you aren’t going to understand a thing.

Except that I use words like “this dancey bit” and “the coupley bit” and “the lift where you do this and that one thing”.

Yeah, that wouldn’t make a very good post.
