Yeah, so whatever.

It’s Thursday, which means I must blog something creative because I arbitrarily decided that Thursday was Creative Writing Exercise Day.  I already ranted and I’m currently trying to find more information about the Fortuny Delphos Gown with which I have apparently become obsessed.  I have found one research article, but I can’t get to it without paying $30 for a temporary subscription to the journal.  I do not WANT to spend $30 for a temporary subscription to anything, even if it WILL give me a lot more insight than I have now.  For instance, I suspect that just beyond the abstract of this article, there will be a detailed description of the fabric Fortuny used for these dresses, and the fact that I know it’s there, in the very next sentence that I can almost see but not quite, is KILLING ME right now.

All I want to know is what weight and weave of silk he used.  So far, I’ve heard it described as a silk taffeta (but taffeta seems too stiff) and a satin-weave silk (which can only be a silk charmeuse because silk satin would be too heavy), but no one has said anything conclusive and it’s BOTHERING ME.  If I knew, I could buy 4 yards of fabric and some dye and start pleating it.  I tried that method before on some polyester and it worked pretty well, although I think the pleats were too big.  An alternative someone suggested (based on research that is probably in that article I can’t see…) is that the pleating was done by basting across the fabric in rows about 3/4″ apart.  I can do that.  It wouldn’t take forever.  Then all I’d have to do it twist it up, boil it, and bake it in the microwave to set it all in.  Shouldn’t be that difficult.  But I don’t know if I should look at silk charmeuse or Thai silk!  I don’t know!

Help.

Of course, this will all be pointless if I go to the fabric store and discover that there is some (what is called) crystal-pleated gunmetal gray organza that will have the “hand” I want.

Why do I go through all this stress?  Well, as mentioned in some earlier blog or other, I have this desire to be fabulous at parties so I tend to go overboard and make myself a basket-case over a dress.  Ugh.  But, you know, the compliments are worth it, so I continue my Fortuny research as best I can at work…and without giving up and spending a TON of money on this.

Hey, look at me go.  I blogged about something creative!  That totally counts for today.

In other news, it appears as though they’ve found an actor for me to work with.  Hooray!  And the film has been pushed back another month.  You wouldn’t think that merits a “hooray” but it totally does.  One more month for me to try to get physiologically impossible ripped* abs!  Hooray!

*My ribs sit almost right on top of my hips, and I like carbs and fat too much, so whatever.  Hi, cake, I will eat you.

    Best. Last. Sentence. Ever.

Try reading Rosalind Laker’s “Orchids & Diamonds.” The protagonist crosses paths with Fortuny and the author describes his atelier and clothing in minute detail. Also, have you tried the library or Google Books for any information on Fortuny?
