Vacation!

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

I’m taking next week off work.  I’m not going anywhere out of state because I have not a money for such a thing, otherwise I’d be in Tennessee eating my sister-in-law’s groceries and harassing wounded children. :) I plan on a couple of day trips as far as travel and that’s about it.

However.

I do have a tentative list of Things I’d Maybe Like to Do That May or May Not Actually Happen:

  • Get out the watercolors and paint the lichen on my back porch.  They’ve been dry and stagnant for years and it might be fun to sit in the back yard and paint growths.  Also I like painting cement because of all the colors you can play with.
  • Read something.  Possibly finish Fashioning the Bourgeoisie and Gothic:  Dark Glamour.
  • Send a giftie to a person.
  • Sew a dress or so.
  • Alter Anna’s Halloween costume so it actually FITS her, and get together with her anyway to figure out what she wants for the little hat she asked me to make for her wedding, if she still wants it at all.
  • Go to Mirror Lake and Upper Provo Falls whilst wearing expeditionary shorts (khaki cargoes, men’s section, Old Navy, super hot ha ha) and a clever t-shirt.
  • Paint my fingernails in immature colors, just because I have a TRUCKLOAD of nail polish I never actually use and some of it just might be blue.  What of it?
  • See my dermatologist, dentist, and optician ON THE SAME DAY.  I know–I live on the edge.
  • Eat cookies.  Ok, that doesn’t require a vacation in order to be done, but I thought I’d throw it up here anyway.  For fun.  And also on the off-chance that someone will make cookies (DAD).
  • Make a necklace or something out of the beads I’ve purchased at Gem Faire over the last year.
  • Set Laresa’s carved amber dinosaur cameos in the silver pendants my brother bought to go with them.
  • Make sure I have the right pliers to do such a thing.
  • Buy yarn for another giftie for another friend.
  • Exercise.
  • Give myself fake tattoos with my colored Sharpies.  (Does crossing it out mean I’ve already DONE that, or does it mean I WON’T do it?  You be the judge!)
  • Practice with my drop spindle.
  • Maybe buy some orange knit and make a shirt because I can’t find anything I like in the right color and I have a skirt I haven’t worn because I don’t have anything orange to wear it with.
  • Finish piecing together the industrial wool felt ironing board pad I’m making for my mom–I found ~2.5 yards of the stuff at DI for $2 (I WANT MY TWO DOLLARS), but it was too narrow to do a pad without piecing it and I’m trying to sew it in such a way that the stitches only show on the back and won’t leave a weird impression on the front.  Why did I decide industrial wool felt was the way to go?  Well, we “inherited” a sleeve board from a friend and I insisted on keeping it.  When I was frustrated with the pad my mom has on her ironing board, I checked out the pad on the sleeve board, which, incidentally, was made in West Germany, and which, incidentally, is industrial wool felt.  I stumbled onto that piece at the DI on 700 S in Salt Lake, which, incidentally, is down the street and around the corner from this AWESOME vintage shop where I found a gorgeous wool late 50s-early 60s suit for less than $40 one time.  ANYWAY.
  • After I’ve pieced that, make my mom go fabric shopping with me to find something she wants for a new ironing board cover and not just something, pretty as it is, that has been in my stash for lo these 12 years or so.
  • PERHAPS, if I feel motivated, I’ll pull out the 3 yards of English net I’ve had sitting around with my wedding fabric since, oh, 1999, and experiment with my shiny new Clover Kantan Couture Tool (which, according to this guy, isn’t nearly as good as an actual tambour needle, but which will give me a start on the technique).
  • Catch up on my part of the family history blog.

Things I plan NOT to do:

  • Stress out about work.
  • Eat too many cookies.
  • Get a sunburn.
  • Stay up too late, even though I technically CAN.
  • Vandalize anything (I know, I know, what a shock).
  • Spend too much money (maybe a little on fabric and yarn and gas and treatses).
  • Not shower every day.
  • Watch trashy TV.
  • Play more than 4 games of Rage of Vampires Age of Empires.
  • Lie about playing more than 4 games.
  • Feel bad if I lie about playing more than 4 games.
  • Replace any parts on my car.

And there you have it.  Exciting times in my world.  Exciting.  Times.
