6-10
Thursday, February 5th, 20096-10 things about me! Hooray!
6. This is one of my favorite things. When I was 11 or 12 my dad went to China for 5 weeks. He brought back a suitcase full of presents for us, including kites. My brother has a dragonfly, and the girls got butterflies. I remember that we flew them one day and I was scared something would happen to them and they’d be ruined. After I moved furniture, that corner looked a little bare and I decided to hang my kite on my wall so I could look at it every day. I plan to hang it when I get my own place again.
7. I have a weakness for sequins and embellishment in general. If there are only two skirts on the rack, and one of them has sequins or embroidery on it, I’m more likely to buy the fancy one than the plain one. I’ve always had an inordinate enjoyment of shiny things and someday would like to own a hand-painted Mexican circle skirt from anywhere between the 1930s and the 1960s. I wrote a research paper about the origin of that kind of style and it only cemented the desire to possess one of those strictly-for-tourists items.
8. I love my night-stand. My parents bought it for me after I expressed a liking for it. It once had a glass top that broke when a kitty decided to push a plant off a shelf onto the glass (I also love Battenburg lace and had a pretty square under the glass top). Every once in a while, I trawl through the clearance aisles at TJ Maxx or Burlington, and every once in a while I find something awesome like the beaded placemat that now protects the top of my night-stand. The lampshade came from JoAnn, the lamp came from my stint at Mervyn’s 15 years ago, and I have no idea why the Fray-Check is on there, but there it is. I also have a formal portrait of my family (before Zach’s marriage) and one of Bethani’s high school pictures. Some of my favorite things in the whole world, including the Fray-Check, are represented on that little night-stand.
9. Have I mentioned that I like stripes? Besides my newly-discovered fondness for colorful sweater tights, I have come to love long, long socks. These go up to my thighs and, when worn over leggings, keep my legs very warm. I currently have 5 pairs of them and am always on the lookout for more. These have silver metallic stripes, once again reinforcing my “shiny aesthetic”.
10. I love this mountain. I love it very very much. I have taken countless pictures of Mount Timpanogos and only one of them (so far) has turned out as breathtaking as the actual landmark. This is not it, but it’s one of my favorites–I took it at sunrise as I was leaving for work one very cold day, and I wish the resolution was better. Maybe I can sharpen it up in PhotoShop, but I love it anyway. I have been so overwhelmed by the beauty of Timpanogos that I’ve cried before. It’s never ugly and I can’t imagine living somewhere without mountains.
